Curious about the Design Process?
The ball gets rolling once you contact me about your project. From there, I’ll get in touch with you to let you know about my current wait list and when I can begin working with you. I am typically booked 1-2 months out, so plan accordingly. I’ll have you start by completing a design questionnaire so I can find out a bit more about your company and your design needs. After your questionnaire is submitted and invoice payment remitted I will assign you a project start date. Mark that on your calendar with a big smiley face and start getting excited!
Once your project start date arrives your project has 4 phases:
The first step to building you a great custom design is finding out a bit more about your company’s personality, objectives and target market. Some of this information is gleaned from your design questionnaire, your inspiration, a pinterest board you’ve created- the list goes on. I’ll also check out your competitors and what they have going on. Photographers, I’ll look at your portfolio and get a feel for your work and clients. For other organizations I will do a bit of industry research as well. If you have a previously established brand or web presence I’ll look things over and find out what isn’t working for you. The more details you can give me at this stage the better as information gathered here will set the direction for our work together.
Here’s where ideas come to life. I start out with sketches (yes, on paper!) and brainstorm many scenarios and ideas for your identity. I’ll also take copious breaks to eat chocolate, watch ungodly amounts of the series du jour on Netflix, sign my heart out to Brandi Carlile and get up from the big screen once and awhile for some perspective. The creative process is a complex one ;) With fresh eyes I’ll select the most promising ideas and work up four unique concepts for your logo design – exploring different solutions to your design dilemma. The timeline from your start date to the delivery of concepts in your inbox is about 10 business days.
After you’ve had a chance to soak in the concepts (take your time, print them out, stare at them for a bit and see how they feel) you’ll choose your favorite idea to focus on. I’ll ask for your feedback on each concept, noting fonts and layout that you are drawn to or that don’t work for you so I can get to know a bit more about your design preferences. From there, we will work together on refining your favorite concept through a series of revisions until it’s just right.
Once you’ve approved the design, I’ll get to work creating the final artwork files and get them off to you! Each client receives the original vector design file (Illustrator, .AI file) and a rasterized file (Photoshop, .PSD file). If you need another file size or type – just let me know. If you need help with implementation, vendor recommendations, or other branding pieces we will tackle those together.
Like what you see and think we would be a good fit? Contact me and let’s get started bringing your brand to fruition.
